Carnegie History
The Litchfield Public Library was originally a Carnegie Library. Although the library is now in a new building, that history is reflected in the painting of the original library in the lobby, and the Carnegie meeting room. Across the street, you can read about the history of the library on a bench installed by the Downtown Council.
Thank You to Summer Reading Program Donors
Thank you to the organizations and businesses that donated toward Litchfield Library’s summer reading program this year! The Friends of the Library donated funds to help run the program and buy small prizes. The businesses donated prizes that children and teens chose when they turned in completed reading sheets. Thank you for supporting kids and reading in our community!

Litchfield Library at the Watercade Parade
The Litchfield Library Foundation board and library staff, plus friends and family, walked in the 2025 Litchfield Watercade parade! They handed out the newly designed bookmarks with the winning artwork by Brooke Johnson from the foundation’s contest, plus free books for kids.
The books were funded by the Friends of the Litchfield Library, with help from the Litchfield Library Foundation and a Thrivent grant. Over 1600 kids received books! Thank you to the Friends, the Foundation, and Thrivent for this service to the community.
Bookmark Contest Winners and Finalists
Congratulations to the winners of the Litchfield Library Foundation’s second annual bookmark contest!
There were 195 entries from local 5th through 12th graders. The foundation board voted to narrow to the semifinalists and finalists, then the public voted on the 10 finalists to choose the 3 winners. The top 3 win cash prizes, and the 1st place design will go on this year’s library bookmark, which will be handed out at the Watercade parade and the library.
The winners’, finalists’, and semifinalists’ bookmarks are on display in the cabinet next to the front desk of the library. Stop by to take a look!
